Attacking Cenckiewicz, Targeting Nawrocki: The Old "Reset" War Returns

What terrifies Tusk and Sikorski? A man who knows their Russian pasts inside out. Cenckiewicz stands firm—and that makes him public enemy number one.

The attacks on Professor Sławomir Cenckiewicz—the head of Poland’s National Security Bureau (Biuro Bezpieczeństwa Narodowego - BBN) and President Karol Nawrocki’s closest advisor on national defense—show no sign of stopping. Recent posts here have focused almost exclusively on this matter. Why? Because the head of the BBN is not only a critical figure in the President’s cabinet, but also a target through whom the enemies of Poland are aiming at the President himself. Karol Nawrocki today is the most popular politician in Poland. From a purely political perspective, the “king” cannot be assaulted directly—so the liberal totalitarians go after his closest allies, hoping to chip away at his image and weaken him ahead of parliamentary elections (which, given the incompetence of Donald Tusk’s government and Poland’s rapidly deteriorating situation, may even be accelerated).

But for regular readers of “Rock Rachoń We Rollin’”, this is not the whole story. Cenckiewicz is far more than a presidential aide—he is arguably the most accomplished scholar in Central Europe on Soviet and post-Soviet intelligence services: their personnel, their methods, their goals. He is a man of extraordinary knowledge and unusual courage, but also one with an iron moral backbone and a fierce Polish patriot. Author of numerous works that exposed ties with Moscow and its services among those the left-liberal mainstream wanted to elevate into national heroes. For anyone tainted by cooperation with the communist regime or the new Kremlin empire of the notorious war criminal Vladolf Putler—let us repeat here, starting with Poland’s current Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the architect of the so-called “reset” with Russia who opened Poland’s intelligence services to penetration by the FSB—Cenckiewicz is a mortal threat. He has the facts at his fingertips, the eloquence to present them ruthlessly, and the ability to connect the dots not only in Poland but across the international landscape.

How must Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski feel, knowing Cenckiewicz can recall his wine-soaked fraternization with Sergey Lavrov? Sikorski once invited Lavrov to address Polish diplomats at their highest briefings, while his wife, journalist Anne Applebaum, cheered the Obama-era “reset with Russia.” Both Sikorski and Applebaum now try to conceal those sins with performative anti-Russian zeal. But when it mattered, they played into Moscow’s hands. Cenckiewicz terrifies this entire rotten network—transnational in nature—because the very same people who pushed “reset” in the U.S. stood behind Tusk’s rapprochement in Poland. Their fingerprints were even visible in outside attempts to influence Poland’s presidential elections, for example through Democrat-linked Higher Ground Labs Fund III LP.
