In a stunning display of audacity, Pablo González Yagüe, a confirmed officer of Russia’s GRU military intelligence, recently published a provocative opinion piece on the Basque information website "Naiz," brazenly accusing Poland and the European Union of systemic human rights violations and hypocrisy. González, who was detained by Polish authorities under espionage charges in February 2022, spent two and a half years in high-security detention before being controversially released in August 2024 by Poland’s current administration under Donald Tusk as part of a prisoner swap with Russia. His article, titled "Persecutions, Human Rights, and Double Standards," serves not only as a self-serving narrative designed to paint himself as an innocent victim of political persecution but also as a clear element of Russia’s ongoing disinformation and operational warfare against NATO and Western democracies.
