Polish President Andrzej Duda found a moment to talk to TV Republika during his historic visit to Washington, where, together with Polish Prime Minister D. Tusk, he met US President Joe Biden and talked to representatives of both parties in the US Congress. We talked with the Polish president about Poland's security, Russian aggression in Ukraine and his proposal that NATO countries should obligatorily allocate 3% of their GDP to defense to stop Putin's ambitions.
Poland's President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited the White House early March, marking a notable visit in the context of Poland's support for Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict with Russia. This visit, the first joint appearance in Washington in 25 years, focused on discussions with President Joe Biden regarding defense and support for Ukraine.
The United States confirmed its support for Poland with a $2 billion military assistance loan, designated for Apache Attack Helicopters, ABRAMS tanks, and additional military hardware. This aid aims to enhance Poland's defense capabilities within NATO and address security concerns in Eastern Europe.
Poland advocated for increased defense spending among NATO members, citing the need for heightened investment to counter threats. President Duda suggested raising defense spending to at least 3% of GDP among NATO countries to deter aggression and maintain regional peace.
The visit also highlighted the United States' commitment to Ukraine through an emergency aid package, aimed at supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. This package is part of the broader effort to uphold democratic values and international law.
Legislative challenges in the United States have affected the speed of aid delivery to Ukraine. Despite these challenges, the visit emphasized the urgency of support for Kyiv, reflecting ongoing efforts to counter Russian aggression and reinforce security in Europe.
Great article. As we discussed, this was a highly successful visit by President Duda and Prime Minister Tusk. The request for a 3% standard shows the kind of leadership Europe should have had since the Putin Regime began. It is also a wake-up call to the rest of Europe that just doing the bare minimum (or a percentage of it) will not protect Europe. The European Union may have created the conditions for peace within the EU, but now it is necessary to build the defenses needed to protect against threats from outside the EU. Americans appreciate Poland, a country that takes its own defense as seriously as we have since the end of the Cold War.
In view of recent analysis supporting the notion that China is much more involved in supporting Russia in its genocide on Ukraine both economically and materially than it would have us all believe, it is beyond time that the EU and all the West realised exactly what the PRC really is. It’s time China and Chinese Industry was cut from Western economic systems, dual use and specialised materials and micro electronics supplies and sanctioned heavily. Until this is implemented Russia will retain and implement the ability to wipe Ukrainian cities, towns and villages from the map and continue murdering countless Ukrainians in what can only be described as terrorist attacks. Why has Russia’s (Putin’s) $300 bn not been given to Ukraine? WHAT’S THE DELAY????
