Ukraine announced downing of 10 Russian aircrafts in 10 days
Officials they claim it was just an accident. And that Russia just shot down its 300 milion dollars worth soviet version of what is widely known in the NATO world by the name AWCAS. The Beriev A-50, recognized by NATO with the reporting name "Mainstay," originates from the Soviet era as an airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) platform, utilizing the Ilyushin Il-76 transport aircraft as its base. It was developed as a successor to the Tupolev Tu-126 "Moss," achieving its first flight in 1978. The existence of the A-50 was disclosed to the Western Bloc in the same year by Adolf Tolkachev. Officially entering service in 1985, approximately 40 units of the A-50 were produced by the year 1992. That’s how this “accident” looked like.
As Daily Mail reports the footage captured vast clouds of smoke rising from the debris after the wing of an A-50U reconnaissance aircraft was allegedly severed by a strike from an upgraded S-200, a Soviet-era long-range air defense missile, marking a significant setback for Russia's already waning air fleet.
