Come on Britain and France, we can't let the Germans get away with this, (we've been here before), any expansion of Germany's armed forces must be matched by the rest of us, if we don't need them immediately, we can always lend the extras to Ukraine.
Seriously Michal you believe Germany is trying to rearm and become the military power of Europe. I don't see it that way. The report is reiterating deficiencies European news have identified about Germany and NATO. After two years of supplying weapons to Ukraine the cupboards are getting low and Scholz promised to open a base in Lithuania with 4000 military personnel, his army has huge issues with recruitment, maintenance issues, lack of important pieces of combat uniform. Poland is in a better shape because they recognized the issue when Russia attacked in 2022 but NATO still underestimate Putin and the report mentioned it. When Putin believe he can win against NATO he is going to attack the Baltic. NATO is in trouble and the report is saying that they have six to ten years to get ready well I think it is going to be before that, I would say 2-4 years from now. China, North Korea and Iran are supporting Russia, let's not forget them.
Yes, I genuinely believe this is a serious issue. Let's consider the problem from a broader perspective. Germany is influencing EU treaty changes that have recently been approved by the Europarliament. These changes will likely position Germany as the sole political decision-maker in Europe. Formally, this will require other states to support Germany's views, but only Germany will possess a complete set of political tools, including the euro, the European Central Bank, the political influence derived from its population, and its financial dominance through exports. Additionally, consider the 100 billion euro boost to the Bundeswehr and the removal of other states' veto powers, compelling all EU member states to recognize the supremacy of EU law over national laws, a stance not yet accepted by the German Federal Constitutional Court. Factor in the ongoing efforts to remove U.S. troops from Europe, and it seems we're heading towards another potential crisis. Also, it's notable that some German politicians have begun discussing the borders between Poland and Germany in the context of post-World War II history.
I see your point and and yes it is worrisome because it vaguely resemble to the prelude of WW1 and WW2 in Europe. Same actors and same hidden agenda but wider global issues to murky the waters. Either it is an ongoing tactic of Russia to take over Europe or a genuine wish of Germany to take over the EU keeps me sitting on the fence. Also, some of the countries have made radical switch from right wing parties to left such as Poland and others from left to right such as Slovakia and the Netherlands. Then you have Hungary who keeps down mouthing Ukraine and butting head with the EU. This indicate that something is brewing but what.
For me, as an ex military, 100 billion Euro is a drop in the bucket when you consider that Germany in 2022 spend US$57.8 billion and that they sent 10 Leo 2 and 6 of them needed repairs. That DW reported last week German soldiers lack basic combat equipment, floors me. What else are they lacking from? They are going to need a lot more money to fix the Bundeswehr.
Removing US troops from Europe would be a monumental disaster and I am glad that Poland accepted them in their country. I know France is also talking about becoming less dependent on US military but let’s face it twice they thought they were ready for war and twice they almost lost. Today is not different; Europe needs all the help it can get.
As for the German-Polish borders, well it brings me back to Russia. As Andrei illarionov former Senior Policy Adviser during Putin's early period as President in an interview with the KyivPost said earlier this week that unknown to a lot of people; Vladof Putler is a long range strategist. If we believe him that means Putler has been working to destabilize Europe for a long time. So I think this is another scheme to create animosities between Germany and Poland. You may need to have a show with a European expert/analyst to brake that down. I believe it would be very interesting for the world to know.
Michal I love your show, every night at supper time (in Canada) I take my computer, go to you tube and watch Military mind, Brake the Fake and Rock Rachon and enjoy every minute of it. You have very knowledgeable and experienced guest. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward for the next installment of RESET.
I watch every evening in Canada as well. I worry because countries seem to be dialing down assistance and this would be a disaster yet again. I hear people saying things like "oh we have to be careful because we don't want war", it takes everything I have not to scream "we do". Canadians are so politically correct we are no longer a loud to speak. The woke is killing us.
As a Brit I voted to stay in Europe, I was naturally disappointed to be on the loosing side but compelling states to accept EU law makes me think perhaps we dodged a bullet.
I see that states having a veto can be a bad thing like Russia on the UN Security Council? After all Britain used it's veto to the point where it became a hated thorn in the EU's side.
If one (or two) states wish to vote against the majority, they should not be forced into participation, if they repeatedly side with an EU enemy then it should be made clear that they could be removed from the EU by a majority vote. Likewise no one state (Germany or any group of states) should try to force their will on other EU states.

Not just Britain & France.. How about the Baltics, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy..... concerning.
