The U.S. hasn't learned a thing since Vietnam , except for Desert Storm , in that we practice gradually , supplying material as a response instead of everything that is needed expeditiously . We also try to impose unrealistc rules of engagement as a precondition for supplying . We should ask only two questions : what do you need and how much . I know first hand about this as I am a Vietnam Veteran .
Yes, this is exactly what Putler said way back in the beginning...and it has come to be...Clearly the 'Sleeping Giant (the collective West)' is still slumbering. It urgently needs to stir, to wake up, to get off its 'buts, ifs and maybes' and do something to ensure Russia (and its Allies) do not win in Ukraine (never mind in the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific!!!)....God help us all if Ukraine is defeated.
I would wish this were so but I am afraid that it will not happen. Donald Trump is far more likely to strongly sway his support behind Israel rather than further involve the U.S. in Ukraine's conflict. If (when?) he is re-elected president I will be interested to see how he manages to end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours as he has stated he would be able to do. He says he understands Putin and has a good relationship with him. I'm curious to see where all this understanding and amiability will lead. But mostly I'm curious to see how much Trump's diplomacy will cost Ukraine to end the war. There is little doubt Trump can lean upon Ukraine heavily enough to force the Ukrainians to the negotiating table. All he has to do is deny Ukraine any further U.S. military aid and perhaps promise Ukraine some U.S. rebuilding program aid after a peace treaty is signed to effectively force Ukraine to sue for peace terms. The biggest players in European military circles are already having trouble keeping up with their promised military aid to Ukraine and if they see the U.S. backing out I suspect that some of the major European military players will back away from their support of Ukraine. This will leave Ukraine in an untenable impossible position and would likely force them into negotiations with Russia. I suspect Trump may well say better a smaller, poorer nation than no nation at all. I would hope Trump wouldn't do this but otherwise I don't see how he could possibly end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours unless he went full rogue and told Putin he'd reduce Moscow and St. Petersburg to radioactive piles of ash unless Putin got the heck out of Ukraine and fast. I think this second, nuclear option would be the action of a madman and whatever Trump may be, he's not insane. That's Biden's department.
I have always found America's split personality curious. I have traveled a little to the U.S.; Las Vegas, Mesquite, Laughlin, Nevada; down through North Dakota and on to Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills country in South Dakota; Lake Havasu, Arizona; through much of Washington State; and northern Montana which borders on Alberta, Canada where I live. I typically eschewed the big city sights (except for the Vegas strip) and preferred stopping and staying in small towns and cheap, clean chain motels, and the occasional privately owned roadside motel. I preferred to stop at the local watering holes and share a pint and some conversation with the locals. Or to stop in the local diner or cafe for coffee and a bite and talk to the wait staff and locals there. What I found everywhere I went in these small communities was pleasant, friendly people who were not much different from myself. It is a fact that small town and rural folk from the three Canadian prairie provinces have far more in common with the people of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and North and South Dakota than we have in common with our Canadian compatriots from Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. But, as an Albertan, I can still look at the American ideals and perceptions as an outsider. The U.S. has been notoriously isolationist at various times in its history which led to their entering both World Wars years after Canada, Britain, and other countries did. Yet if some American figure is slighted or some nation does something deemed contrary to America's interest, literally anywhere in the world, the Americans are quick to intervene covertly or overtly. They do not seem to understand that they cannot have their cake and eat it too. The U.S. is still the most militarily and economically powerful nation on earth and as such, anything they do anywhere in the world, no matter how small in their perception, causes significant and not necessarily beneficial ripple effects upon many other people and nations. After fully a century of hegemony one would think they would have geopolitics figured out by now. Apparently not. I fully understand that the American public, by and large, neither has the money nor the desire to get even more deeply involved in the Ukraine-Russia imbroglio but this is a crisis coming directly from the U.S.' inability to do geopolitics in a proper and honest fashion. Wgen the Soviet Union disintegrated this left four former Soviet republics with nuclear weapons equipped militaries; Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Three of these "new" nations; Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan gave up their nuclear arsenals for "guarantees" of their sovereignty and the inviolability and security of their respective borders. These so-called "guarantees" were mandated and to be enforced by Russia, the United Kingdom, and most importantly the United States of America. Any modest student of history can site examples of Rusdian duplicity dating back centuries. Yhe Russian's signature on these documents is not worth the ink it was written with and never should have been accepted as anything more than that. The United Kingdom has not been in position to guarantee anyone's borders since probably around the turn of the twentieth century. Only the United States was capable of backing such a security guarantee. And in Barack Obama, the U.S. had a fifth rate foreign policy turd as a president. His foreign secretary, Hillary Clinton, was herself a useless narcissist who's entire knowledge and ability in the foreign policy field would have been easily accommodated in the toenail clippings of the recently departed Henry Kissinger. With such useless twits at the helm in the deeply troubled time when "Mad" Vlad Putin was finally making his move to consolidate his iron grip on the Russian ship of state and beginning to make his move to reconstitute the old Soviet Union through adventurism in Georgia, Armenia, and eventually Ukraine; the United States was nowhere to be seen when it was time to confront Russia and "guarantee" the safety and security of Ukraine within its universally agreed upon borders from 1991-1993. Because of the American's lack of courage in the Crimean invasion of 2014, we saw Russia full on invade Ukraine in 2022. To those Americans who say and believe otherwise, including Donald Trump (who I don't like as a person in general but who I did like as an American president) I say it was your nation's deception in the rush to disarm the former Soviet republics that ked directly to the war in Ukraine today. You made this bed so now you nust lie in it or the fate of the Ukrainian nation and its people kies directly on your heads; the blood of all the Ukrainian dead is on your hands. If the U.S. did not want the responsibility of Ukraine then they should never have allowed the disarmament of Ukraine, separating it from its nyclear arsenal. If Ukraine had a nuclear arsenal Crimea would never have been invaded; Russia would never have dared interfere in the internal politics of Ukraine, particularly in Donetsk and Luhansk; and Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February, 2022 would never have happened. It us now directly the responsibility of the U.S. to help Ukraine drive out the Russian invaders from all of Ukraine, including Crimea. But if I were Ukraine, I wouldn't bank on any truly significant support from the U.S. in driving the Russians completely out of Ukraine. The Americans, more significantly their leadership, postures and blusters about their power and abilities but more and more the U S. appears to be a rather nousy paper tiger. The Americans are very good at keaning on their NATO, Ukrainian, and Israeli allies but not so good at facing down threats from their enemies. The western world at large depends very much on American military might abd their nuclear deterrent to protect our democracies and our way of life but they never seem to realize that they need Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan, and South Korea for the markets we orovide for their productive output, raw materials and resources they may lack or be short in, and the military strength and co-operation we provide the U.S. This was true in World War I, even more so during World II, and is even more so today. But right now the U.S. is again dangerously isolationist, and worse, befuddled in its beliefs and values. In fairness to Americans I must add that this befuddlement is not an exclusively American phenomenon, far from it. My own nation Canada is equally guilty of this affliction, perhaps even more so. And so are many of the developed nations also afflicted by this strange inability to simply tell right from wrong; that which is morally right from that which aligns itself with a Satanic view of life on this planet and is totally repulsive to any fundamentally decent human being. I hope and pray that Donald Trump is re-elected as president and that his thoughts, beliefs, and actions fall on the side of decency where Ukraine and Israel are concerned. I would hope Mr. Trump will stand for America's word and promises that were made by those who preceded him. This would be the path to America regaining her former prominence in world affairs.
Please don't be so naive about Trump, he doesn't give a hoot about Ukrainia. as he want to end the war, alright, by simply letting his BUDDY Putler do what ever he wants.
trump is already quoting from hitlers MEIN KOMP.
By a fellow cunuck but my parents both escaped from Estonia before russian occupation so as to live in a democracy.
If you carefully read the last part of my overlong comment you would see that I pretty much agreed with what you said, in different words perhaps. I seriously doubt that there is good news for Ukraine regardless who wins the next American presidential election. The Democrats are weak (in foreign policy matters) and have led the U.S. down the garden path to befuddlement and moral despair which means that the U.S. will be far too busy navel gazing to pay attention to the fact the Emperor is wearing no clothes and their empire is collapsing around their ears; much less pay close attention to the troubles of distant Ukraine. As for Trump, if he wins, he has a massive clean up job to do in Washington D.C., on the southern border, and throughout much of the rest of the country. Trump is an America Firster which means his focus will be within rather than outside America's borders. So under Trump the U.S. will likely turn towards isolationism. Ukraine won't rank very high on Trump's list and he is likely to partially sell off Ukraine to Putin for a low price.
I understand all this. As I said I am curious to see just how much peace will cost Ukraine under Trump as I see this being the most likely scenario after the upcoming U.S. election next fall.
What would you like to see happen? You would prefer senile Joe Biden maybe? Or any of the other Democrat wannabes, some worse than Old Joe himself? The U.S. has gone farther left and divided against itself under Biden's and Barack Obama's tenures as president than at any time previously in their history which has led to the great weakening of America as that light upon the hill; that shining beacon of democracy. Under Trump's leadership at least the American nation might have a chance to at least undo a portion of the internal damage wrought upon this nation by the presidential terms of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Another presidential term by another Democrat, any Democrat, in the Oval Office will only weaken America further and that will do neither Ukraine or Israel any good. Never mind that we here in Canada are greatly dependent on the Americans for our own freedom. The globalist direction and tendencies of the Democrats in the U.S. and our Liberals in Ottawa are destroying both our nations from within and are bringing ruination to our North American community. Whatever his faults, Donald Trump is the best hope for America to regain some of its former strength and respect; both sorely needed for America to deal with the Russias, Chinas, and Irans of this world. Trump scares these countries and therein lies America's (and our) salvation.
I am deeply troubled by the events in Ukraine as I claim partial ancestry from places within this nation. My paternal grandparents both came from communities around Ternopil. Unfortunately I don't see any good prospects for Ukraine going forward. Their peace will likely only be gained through giving up more territory to the Russians, to go with the already occupied Crimea. And what is a promise of peace by Putin worth anyway? Likely not the price of the ink such a document would be signed with. Ukraine's only real chance of long term survival lies in their ability, limited as it might be, to get into NATO. That is the one thing Putin has feared, up to this point. Even this is uncertain today but it is Ukraine's only real chance at a relatively safe continued existence. America is crucial in all this but Ukraine needs to get the European portion of NATO, all of it, on board with any Ukrainian accession plan.
I am not An American but rather a South African. However, myself and multi-millions of people in my country and around the globe have supported Ukraine 🇺🇦 from day one. We will continue to donso with the same vison as President Zelenskiiy...only an all out win against Russia is acceptable. However, in the beginning, the USA, EU and NATO, although providing defensive aid to Ukraine, the same have also tiptoed around Russia and Putin like a nervous cat eyeing a nearby poodle. A paltry few long range missiles, a handful of AFVs, a small pinch of tanks, just enough rifle ammo, less than enough artillery rounds and howitzers...all slowly and tentatively given. Unnecessary delays in providing fighter aircraft and training...and too little too late. As the "leader" of NATO andbthe free world, America has been playing lip service to Ukraine and much less from Europe. Grandpa BIDEN must GO!! I have little faith in Trump, more in Ron De Santos. May God ensure that Americans elect a 2024 President who actually has balls and brains.

You are correct or maybe 5hey wait until someone bombs them , like oh I don't know pearl harbor? What does it take for them to help Ukraine win.
